My Perceptions and Feelings About the Schools Core Values

Honesty, respect, judgment, commitment, courage and community are appropriate as Core Values of the school. As the school endeavors to develop the minds and personalities of various types of people from various kinds of family or origin, the aforementioned values are very significant. They provide common guidance and direction to each member of the school towards achieving common goals. The member referred to may be students, parents, teachers and school employees, as well.

The Core Values are more descriptive than prescriptive. The prescriptive tone (if any...) is very subtle. The tone is more of descriptive type as it only lays down the definitions, applications and benefits of the core values. This descriptive tone is more appropriate because the Core Values cater to the hearts and minds, of mostly young and aggressive students like me.

The Core Values are more of goals, rather than rules. This is well reflected in the tone and language of the Introduction. We seek is a phrase that is used for expressing goals. If there is any word of shall or should, then the Core Values could be deemed as rules.  However, there is none at all. The word believe is also an expression of a goal in terms of paradigm of thinking or behavior.

The format and style of the Core Values is very simple and reader-friendly. It can be easily understood and absorbed by students or school members from all walks of life. This is the ideal format and style of Core Values, so that the students who need to be guided by these, and subsequently adhere to, can do so without hindrance due to lack of understanding.

The choice of words or diction is also very convenient to the readers such that the Core Values can be easily driven to the heart.

Since the values are easily understandable and be easily digested by any reader, then, the hindrances and barriers to implementation related to those are minimized. The Core Values are also defined and described in terms which relate to daily routines of life, common to people coming from different backgrounds and nationality.

Definitely, the Core Values bring about significant contributions to make our lives as students better. They provide us with common directions and guidelines in pursuing our individual goals, dreams and activities within the institution. Having unified guidelines and directions also prevents conflicts within the school due to differences in way of thinking, behavior and culture.
