Daoism vs. Platonism.

In the middle of the turmoil in the political and military aspect of China, many concerned philosophers come out and bestow great impact in the field of religion, philosophy, and politics. Each work of wisdom suggests resolutions in forming a harmonious political society which solve all the daily problems that theyre encountering. One of the known philosophies is the Daoism.
Taoism is also known as Daoism which means the road or the way. Many believe that Lao Tze is the founder of this philosophy. The Daoist Metaphysics is related to the concept of monism that explains the existence of everything is influenced by one concept or being. In Daoism, it emphasizes an individual that needs to be followed to, the Tao. They believe that Tao is the power that manipulates and interrelates all in this world. They believe that Tao guides everyone so each person must pay attention and must draw their selves closer to the Tao to find enlightenment. Daoism gives emphasis about the oneness with the nature. The concept of this belief is to attain the total accordance in the society. Thats why Daoism centers their concentration on their conviction that Tao, Reality and Nature are one. In reality, they really accept the truth about experiencing contented and worthy life only in the presence of Tao and the Nature. Daoism also stresses about comparable entities like deepness is good for our intellect human - heartedness for our social aspect in speaking is trustworthiness and order for governance. All the philosophies have different approaches but to sum them up, they pursue one reason it is to uphold peace and neighboring states.
Daoism admits that there is a supernatural entity but they have no apparent explanation about it. They mostly reflect it as a mystery because nobody can fully figure it out or explicate. In Daoism, they believe that there is a thing, indistinct yet absolute. It is already there before the heaven and the earth are made up. They couldnt recognize its name but they call it Tao. Tao for them is the Mystery of Mysteries because nobody can explain the real source of it and its authentic personality.
Platonism is empowered by Gottlob Frege and other philosophers like Kurt Godel, Bertrand Russell, and W.V.O. Quine. The main concept of this philosophy is the Theory of Forms. They believe on the existence of the abstract objects but these objects cannot be seen in space or time and surely non  physical and non-mental. This view is focusing the original pattern of all things or the universal scheme of all things living or non-living. Like for example from the sentence 8 is even. This shows a definite object, the number 8. The words are saying something about number 8 but what is number 8 Everybody can have different point of view in this example. But for the platonists view, 8 is an abstract object that exists freely but it is non  physical, non- mental, and it doesnt exist in space or time. Even the property of an object, like for example, the yellow mangoes exists but the property of yellow itself exists independently.
In Platonism, the Form of the Good is considered as the highest form and the sufficient reason of ideas. For the platonists view, everybody could achieve this through the activity of the soul of a person by exercising honest reasoning. Virtue is knowledge for the platonists. An individual can achieve the virtues Wisdom, Courage, and Moderation united by Justice if the person unifies his soul, spirit, reason and appetite.
Reminiscence or recollection is another teaching that is related to the theory of knowledge. There is a previous existence where in all the idea of perfection of all things is derived from it. The platonists believe that all the things in this world are imperfect replicas because there is an original or perfect form of everything. Like for example the letters of the alphabet, one may recognize that his letters are flawed but he knows that there are perfect letters exist.
The Churchmen from Greece and Roma are influenced also by Platonism theory. They come up with the theory that God is the one and supreme real Being.

The difference between Taoism and Platonism are their approaches on how to present their philosophies. Each group possesses own proposals for becoming a good individual even on how to understand the things in our environment, they have different point of view. Like for example, in Daoism, the Nature has a great impact in molding the life of all things thats why respect is needed while in Platonism, the Theory of Forms explains everything. Another thing is that Daoism believes in Tao, that it is the first  cause of the universe and it is the energy that flows to all things while in Platonism, the abstract objects are the beginning of everything and the existence of all things are based from the property.
Both philosophies are the same in implementing virtue. In Daoism, they agree that an individual should promote kindness, meekness, and moderation while in Platonism, virtue is knowledge for them. They foster courage, wisdom, and moderation and these three virtues are bonded by justice. These sentences show that Taoism and Platonism has similar point of view when it comes to virtue. Another similarity is that they believe that there is a real Being where the existence of everything begins. Although, Daoism and Platonism couldnt identify the true identity of that being but still their intuition in it is the same. It is the force that flow through all the things. Even though in Taoism, it is Tao, who made anything and everything. It even balances all the things like for example there is love and hate light and dark and peace and violence while in Platonism, they believe in God as it is adopted by the Greek and Romans. This religious belief until know is being patronized and applied by many. As a whole, both philosophies show that there is a Creator of everything under the sun. He manages our daily life, attitude and personality, the Nature, the living and non  living things, and the balance of everything on Heaven and Earth.
For my own opinion, I would choose Taoism rather than Platonism because as I study them, there is no problem with the two philosophies but since I have to choose one it is Taoism. In this teaching, when it comes to the political aspect, just like Confucianism, it doesnt like a harsh government. The leader should be followed because the people notice the serving attitude of the one who is leading them rather than obeying him simply because the followers are afraid of the punishments due to the policies made.
In Taoism, I also learn that applying the belief about the Tao, Nature and Reality, my life would be peaceful and valuable. All the teachings of this philosophy will benefit the people who will believe on it. If the goal of the people is to have a harmonious relationship with the Tao, who manipulates, makes, and balances everything, nobody will be in great trouble because all the teachings of this group is for the common good of its followers.
In this philosophy, I also notice the personal approaches of the believers to achieve the personal development when it comes to their virtue. They must practice compassion, humility, and moderation. It is really hard to do but a constant practice would help the people acquire this great lesson.
This quotation will be my evidence to support all my answers
We believe in the formless and eternal Tao, and we recognize all personified deities as being mere human constructs. We reject hatred, intolerance, and unnecessary violence, and embrace harmony, love and learning, as we are taught by Nature. We place our trust and our lives in the Tao that we may live in peace and balance with the Universe, both in this mortal life and beyond.
